Concavenator

Notable for the large crest on its back, Concavenator is a carnivorous theropod that dates back around 130 million years to the Early Cretaceous period. This genus can grow up to 6m in length and over 800lbs in weight, with a long tail for maintaining balance and a pronounced triangular crest above its hips. Experts believe the crest may be used to regulate temperature or act as a display for attracting a mate.

Guanlong

The name for this small tyrannosaurid dinosaur means ‘crown dragon’, named for the large, air-filled cranial crest it possessed. This predator measured about 3 meters in length, and reached maturity at around 7 years old.

Protoceratops

The Protoceratops was an herbivore reaching about 2.5m in length and weighing up to 100kg. They had large eyes capable of binocular vision, and powerful bite capabilities thought to act as a defensive weapon. Protoceratops lived in large herds to survive, and they also had large nests, with up to 12-15 tiny hatchlings in each. Protoceratops laid soft-shell eggs, and buried them to stop them from drying out in the arid desert conditions.

Thanatosdrakon

Native to South America, Thanatosdrakon is a large pterosaur that dates back to the Late Cretaceous period - around 86-89 million years ago. With a wingspan of around 9m, this genus is the largest known pterosaur to have inhabited South America, Thanatosdrakon is notable for its unusual appearance, with a very large head and long neck attached to a comparatively small body.
